Artist Statement
Through painting, I uncover the many facets of my being - each one offered to the canvas like whispered truth, welcomed in its beauty, rawness and purity.
I am drawn to the alchemy of layers: inks bleeding into collage, stencils echoing through brushstrokes of acrylic and oil. These materials mingle and settle, forming a quiet depth - a visual gravity - that pulls the viewer closer and closer.
My wish is that within this depth, something stirs: a spark of delight, a breath of inspiration, the courage to let one’s own inner world rise and open to the light.
Bio
As a young teenager Irmi encountered a magical moment of color and design that deeply impacted her imagination: rose-colored flower prints on wallpaper magically transformed pale-white walls into a beautiful and uplifting space - her new bedroom.
She witnessed how magic is practical and she dreamed that she, as well, might be able to create magic one day. This experience never left her heart and mind even when she was going through difficult and tragic times with her birth family.
Years later she worked as a professional department store decorator for a large department store chain in Germany, her country of origin. In this field she was exposed to Fine Art elements which reawakened her love and passion for creativity. Mostly a self-taught artist, she was a member of a Co-op gallery for several years which she called “my home away from home”.
Irmi has also a professional background in the healing arts of Yoga and Ayurveda and is a published poet. The nourishing, uplifting and kind words of her poetry flow into the titles of her paintings weaving them together, and creating a healing fabric of compassion. She loves uplifting colors, texture and depth, and is drawn to the alchemy of layers: inks bleeding into collage, stencils echoing through brushstrokes of acrylic and oil. These materials mingle and settle, forming a quiet depth - a visual gravity - that pulls the viewer closer and closer. It is an invitation to the beholder to discover not just facets of the painting, but also new aspects of themselves. A reflection of their own inner world perhaps that might want to be seen, heard and be healed.
Irmi is always open to experimentation while staying loyal to her unique process. She allows her intuition to guide her way while thinking through the steps of making the dream come through, coining her artistic style and voice, Intuitive Expressionism.
In the future she wants to be more present in her local community sharing her art while also exploring larger platforms to spread her art, optimism, leadership and compassion with the world.
